Everyone hates rock chips, and unfortunately there is  no way to completely avoid getting a chip in the paint or on your windshield. Although there are a few ways to help prevent getting rock chips.

First of all don’t tale gate cars or trucks, the more tire that you as a driver can see the easier it is for a rock to be kicked up by the vehicle in front of you and chip paint or windshield. Also a bra for your car helps protect the paint from getting hit by rocks although they do not cover everything.

Thankfully if you do get a chip in your windshield, most insurance companies repair rock chips without cost to you or increasing your insurance costs. Check with your insurance company for full details, but most will repair 3 rock chips at a time, and up to 4 chips a year.

If you do get a rock chip be sure to get it repaired as soon as possible, most repair companies will come to your house to fix windshields and will only take about 20 minutes to complete. So try not to put it off because if water gets into the chip it can cause the window to crack to the point where the windshield will have to be replaced.
