EcoBoost technology, is a new engine-building methodology that blends forced induction and direct injection into a high-powered yet efficient engine. Basically it takes the idea of a turbocharger and puts it into play for standard vehicles.
It works by taking the exhaust gasses that normally get wasted and use them to spin a small turbine, that then turns a impeller that compresses air into the intake. What does this mean? it means that you will get more power while using less fuel and better mpg.
Ford will soon offer EcoBoost technology in the Ford Flex and Taurus and by 2013 they will offer EcoBoost engines in over 90% of their North American vehicles.
Here is a video created by Ford to explain the EcoBoost engine.
